The Siren Waves

by Morgan Fant

The Waves hunt me.

The fog against the shore beckons me closer.

As the waters wait to claim another soul.

All of history tells me not to go,

For even scientists would rather explore the neverending abyss of the universe

Then step foot in the swallowing trenches that cover the earth.

Every instinct in my body tells me not to go.

To sprint away to the safety of the grass behind me.

But the misty fog grabbed me and wouldn't let go.

It pulls me closer to the water, now pulling me like a vacuum.

The ocean sings her siren song.

I cannot escape.

There is no turning back.

The song lulls me into a haze.

It’s so beautiful.

Poet Statement:

My name is Morgan Fant, I am a senior at Decatur. I am in theater, video production, and Jazz choir. This is a poem about my horrible fear of the ocean.
