Their Heart

by C.H. Swanson

Does anyone admire me

deep in their heart

as I have admired many

who have shrugged me off?

My loves unrequited,

though through romantic overtures I fess,

alas, I find myself alone,

in a world of lovely people

I know not why my heart

seeks those it cannot attain

though that category all-encompassing

still sings, siren-like, to me

Loneliness, a feeling not new

Romance, a warmth I live without

Sadness, my soul most often feels

Hopelessness, the new mode of my life.

Poet Statement:

I'm Curtis Swanson, a current student at Decatur High School. I enjoy playing music and recreational activities with my friends, as well as spending quality time with my family. I decided to begin writing poetry in order to express myself in a manner beyond simple words, and because I wanted to be able to mold my thoughts and feelings into an art form that many can appreciate.
